New ‘Sites and Secrets’ walking tours for Oxford city

A city centre attraction has launched a brand new walking tour for Oxford, promising to reveal the sights and secrets hitherto hidden within the city’s most infamous and historic site – Oxford Castle.

The Sights and Secrets Walking Tour takes place every Saturday and Sunday at 5.00pm and begins at the visitor attraction Oxford Castle Unlocked. The tour will divulge the truth about which restaurant used to be the prison laundry, what's hidden inside the Castle Mound and other intriguing insights from the 1000 years of history that remain part of the redeveloped site.

The attraction’s expert costumed guides will lead the tour which also includes exclusive access to the Punishment Cells and 13th century Well Chamber, keeping small, intimate groups engaged and entertained as they explore parts of Oxford that have never before been on the tourist trail.

Emily Hirons, visitor centre manager at the attraction, commented: “The tour provides a fascinating insight into this historic city’s past in an area that has not been explored by walking tours before. It’s the perfect extension to a visit to Oxford Castle Unlocked which reveals a hidden side to the city traditionally known as the ‘city of the dreaming spires’.”

Tours last 40 minutes. Tickets are available from the admissions desk in the Gift Shop at the attraction and cost £5 for Adults and £4 for Children (under 15). Visitors to the attraction receive £1 off the walking tour ticket price.
