Christmas Magic Set to Dazzle Children at Oxford Castle - Unlocked
Oxford Castle – Unlocked is spreading festive magic this Christmas with a series of joyful children’s’ activities hosted in the castle over the yuletide period, from 17 December 2011 to 3 January 2012.
Families are invited to search the castle for hidden Christmas trees, exploring high and low, up St. George’s Tower and down into the crypt to discover clues which will reveal the history and meaning behind Christmas traditions. Children can also take a bit of Christmas home with them by making festive decorations, glitter snowflakes and reindeer pictures in the prison gallery.
Michael Speight, general manager at Oxford Castle – Unlocked, commented: “Christmas is a time when all the family really comes together and our activities are a perfect opportunity for some family time and a bit of festive fun too!”
Operating as a visitor attraction since 2006, Oxford Castle – Unlocked offers visitors the chance to explore the 1000-year-old buildings, which include a Saxon tower, a prison wing, a crypt and an ancient motte. The site has been used as a place of incarceration since 1071, continuing until the closure of HM Prison in 1996. The old buildings have been preserved and are now open to the public revealing a time capsule – allowing the buildings to tell their story.
Christmas activities are included in the Oxford Castle – Unlocked admission price or alternatively, cost £4 on their own. For more information please contact Oxford Castle – Unlocked on 01865 260666 or log on to www.oxfordcastleunlocked.co.uk
